About the Project
The Winnipeg Millennium Library Project consisted of constructing a full 4th-floor addition (approx. 50,000 square feet) over top of the existing and newly renovated 5 level library facility. The project was an exercise in M Builds’ innovative and collaborative nature. We worked without disrupting the operations of the library, dealt with the intricate details of upgrading the building envelope and the complex management of material handling and access to the building site.
The breathtaking feature of this project was the full-height cast-in-place concrete feature “reading terrace” enclosed with a “high performance” glazed curtain wall system projecting out to the southwest elevation, overlooking a landscaped plaza. The project examined alternatives relative to construction and design-related issues to help achieve goals under sustainable design initiatives such as LEED, CBIP, Power Smart and GMEF. The project was completed on time, within budget and won several national awards.
